Passenger car major Hyundai Motor Wednesday reported a growth of 4.9 per cent in its April sales, including exports, that stood at 52,057 units compared to 54,606 units sold in the corresponding month of last year.
"Consumer confidence continues to be weak, prices went up following the excise hike in the Union budget and interest rates are yet to come down," said Arvind Saxena, director, marketing and sales, Hyundai Motor India Limited.
"Given the present conditions it's a challenging market."
The company's domestic sales increased by 10.9 per cent at 35,070 units from 31,636 units sold in the April, 2011. Exports, however, came down 4.3 per cent at 19,536 units from 20,421 units shipped out during the same month of last year.
Segment-wise cumulative sales in the month under review was led by the company's hatchback car segment that includes brands such as Eon, Santro, i10 and i20 at 44,891 units, followed by A3 segment that includes sedans Accent and Verna at 9,579 units.
Sales of luxury sedan Sonata stood at 66 units and the sales of sports utility vehicle Santa Fe was at 70 units.
