Hyundai has given us our first glimpse of its upcoming MPV, the Staria. Incidentally, the carmaker trademarked the name in India back in mid-2020. The Staria will come in two broad categories: Standard and Premium. Details are scarce at the moment, but we know the Premium trim, which will be offered with niche features, will be limited to select markets.
The name ‘Staria’ has been derived from the words ‘star’ and ‘ria’, with the latter meaning ‘a long narrow area of water formed when a river valley floods.’ Hyundai says the design is inspired by a spaceship, so it looks rather futuristic.
The DRLs run through the width, catching your attention, while the headlamps, which flank a large rectangular grille, are placed below it. The silhouette looks like a proper MPV thanks to the upright stance and the dropping nose which flows cleanly from the hood. The dual-tone alloy wheels also add a dose of premiumness.
Even the window line seems to be low, which should make the cabin much airier. The sliding rear doors should make ingress and egress a breeze even in tight places. At the rear, the Staria comes with vertically stacked LED tail lamps mimicking the headlamps.
The Staria's cabin follows a minimalist theme. Almost all functions of the car can be controlled via the sole tablet-style central touchscreen infotainment system. It also gets the faux Audi-esque AC vents that run through the dash.
Details of the technical specifications will be revealed in the coming weeks. Considering Hyundai has already trademarked the name, the MPV could be evaluated for the Indian market. It could be a potential Toyota Innova Crysta rival. Stay tuned for updates.
