Hyundai has revealed the name of its upcoming subcompact crossover SUV in Europe.
The i20-based Bayon will be the smallest SUV in Hyundai’s European lineup.
The Bayon can be best described as the spiritual successor of the i20 Active.
It will not come to India.
Hyundai Motors has announced a new addition to its lineup in Europe in the form of a crossover SUV. This entry-level SUV, called the Bayon, will be similar to the Venue sold here and in other select markets but not in Europe.
Currently, the Kona is the smallest SUV sold in Europe. The Bayon will soon take that title when it is launched in the first half of 2021. It is named after a French town positioned between the Pyrenees mountains and the Atlantic coast.
The sub-compact SUV has also been spied testing. It will serve as a spiritual successor to the i20 Active, a hatchback crossover based on the previous-gen i20 by the Korean carmaker. However, unlike the i20 Active, the Bayon seems to have its own identity, instead of being just an outstretched i20. The headlights seem to resemble that of the Kona and Hyundai’s teaser reveals boomerang-shaped LED tail lamps.
Spy shots of the Bayon also reveal a digital instrument cluster, a large floating touchscreen infotainment system, and heated front seats. The interior layout appears to be similar to the i20, which it is based on.
Even though the i20 Active was sold here, the Bayon is unlikely to make it to India since we already have the Venue. The Venue goes up against the likes of the Kia Sonet, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. It will also lock horns with the upcoming Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger. It is priced from Rs 6.75 lakh to Rs 11.75 lakh (ex-showroom).
