It will get various tweaks and receive BS6-compliant powertrains

  • Cosmetic changes will include revised bumpers, new headlamps, alloy wheels and a reworked grille.

  • The 2.0-litre BS6 petrol and diesel engines are expected to retain the 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options.
  • Likely to be priced at a premium over its predecessor.
  • Will take on the likes of the Jeep Compass, Tata Harrier and Volkswagen Tiguan once launched.

Looks like Auto Expo 2020 is going to be busy for Hyundai, as the South Korean carmaker is set to introduce 5 new models. One of them is the updated Hyundai Tucson that was expected to arrive last year. And now, the facelifted SUV has been spotted testing in India ahead of its slated debut.

Despite the camouflage, it’s easy to spot the resemblance to the international-spec Tucson. On the outside, the facelifted Tucson will get changes like a revised cascading grille, tweaked headlamps, and a new set of LED DRLs. The side profile of the SUV will remain largely similar aside from new alloy wheels. At the rear, you’ll spot a new lower bumper design and LED tail lamps. Sure, the updates here are minimal, but it wasn’t a bad-looking SUV, to begin with.

The facelifted Tucson also gets a revamp inside with a new 8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system as well as a new dashboard layout. However, it retains the steering wheel and lower dashboard design. Expected features include a Krell sound system, wireless phone charger, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth connectivity. Also, expect BlueLink connected car tech to feature on the facelift.

Under the hood, the facelifted Tucson is likely to retain its 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines. Needless to say, they will be BS6 compliant. We’re expecting power figures of 155PS/192Nm for the petrol and 185PS/400Nm for the diesel to remain unchanged. Both engines are likely to retain the 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions.

The existing Tucson ranges between Rs. 18.77 lakh and 26.97 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Expect the facelifted model to be priced at a premium of over Rs 50,000 for the petrol variant and over 1 lakh for the diesel variant. The SUV is likely to launch later in the year post its debut at Auto Expo 2020. Once launched, it could take on the likes of the Jeep Compass, Mahindra XUV500, Tata Harrier, and the Volkswagen Tiguan.
