Hyundai has unveiled its all-new SUV - the Venue. The India unveil took place alongside its global unveil at the New York International Motor Show. Set to enter the sub-4 metre space, the Venue looks like a scaled-down version of the Creta. But it's underneath those exteriors where the Venue packs most of its heavy punches. The sub-compact SUV has debuted Hyundai's 1.0-litre turbocharged engine along with an in-house developed 7-speed DCT. The Venue will be the first connected SUV in the country and will pack an in-built eSim with Vodafone Idea network. This enables features like advanced safety, vehicle monitoring and remote access, features which will also be available in the upcoming MG Hector.
In terms of size, the Venue measures 3995mm in length, 1770mm in width and and1590mm in height. It even gets a 2500mm long wheelbase. When compared to its key rival, it is as long as the Maruti Vitara Brezza and has a similar wheelbase as well. But the Venue is 20mm narrower and 50mm shorter than the Maruti. In fact, the only SUV that is narrower than the Venue is the Ford EcoSport. But the Venue is a good looking SUV and gets features like a dark chrome Hyundai family grille, projector headlamps, LED DRLs, projector fog lamps, LED tail lamps, 16-inch dual tone alloy wheels and a shark fin antenna.
Inside the Venue, you get a new dashboard layout which does not mimic the likes of the Creta or the Elite i20. The central highlight is the 8-inch touchscreen infotainment which runs Hyundai’s BlueLink technology with 33 connected features. The inbuilt eSIM lets the owner stay connected to the car even when the two are not physically close. It allows you to remotely control functions like engine start/stop, climate control, door lock/unlock, horn honk and light flash and find my car. It even supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. You can check out this link to know more about the connected features.
In terms of features, it gets single-zone climate control, electric sunroof, cruise control, voice recognition, rear AC vents, a cooled glove box, wireless charger, air purifier, Arkamys sound system, a 12V socket, two USB ports and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with mounted controls. The cabin feels more premium than what others in the segment offer.
Three engine options will be on offer including Hyundai's new 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. It makes an impressive 120PS of power and 172Nm of torque. This engine option can be had either with a new 7-speed DCT automatic or a 6-speed manual. The only SUV in the segment with a more powerful petrol engine is the Ford EcoSport. Other engine options available in the Venue are the Elite i20’s 1.2-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel units. The 1.2-litre petrol makes 83PS of power and 115Nm of torque. It is available with a 5-speed manual transmission. The 1.4-litre diesel puts out 90PS of power and 220Nm of torque. This engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

In terms of safety, the Venue gets a hefty kit including six airbags, ESC/ESP and VSM (Vehicle Stability Management), HAC (Hill Assist Control), BAS (Brake Assist System) and ISOFIX child seat mounts. Hyundai is also providing a 3-year/unlimited kilometre warranty and a 3-year roadside assistance package with the Venue.
The sub-4 metre SUV space has grown immensely in recent times and with players like the Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon and the Mahindra XUV300 in play, the Venue is entering a very crowded space. But it has an extensive feature list, connected car tech and Hyundai’s premium interior quality by its side. This could reflect in the price as well as we expect the Venue to be placed between Rs 7.2 lakh to Rs 12 lakh.
