Multiple electric pickup trucks could be coming our way soon, including the GMC Hummer, Tesla Cybertruck, Rivian R1T, Lordstown Endurance, and the Chevrolet EV pickup. Now, we have another contender in this segment, the Los Angeles-based Canoo. The company has unveiled its snub-nosed, utility-focused electric pickup truck, and we must find out more about it in these detailed images:
At a glance, it seems like the Canoo EV sports a slick cab-forward design with a snub-nosed front similar to that of its minivan.
Despite its simple styling, the Canoo electric pickup packs ample practicality, starting from the truck bed that can extend up to 8 ft. As for situations when the tail lamps might not be visible due to the tailgate doors being opened, there’s a secondary unit that does the same job, so you can still operate the pickup truck accordingly.
Up front, you get an extendable cargo storage area. The storage also includes a fold-down work table with electrical outlets.
Both sides of the truck bed can be converted into a flip-down table in two expandable depths. You can also use this table as a workbench.
If you look closely at the sides, there’s a hidden side step for easier access to the truck bed. Underneath that step, there’s space to store your first aid kits, as well as snacks and laptop.
The truck bed itself has a variety of configurable cargo-management bits to secure large equipment.
The Canoo electric pickup can also be used as a power bank of sorts, thanks to the outlets spread out over the pickup truck. Again, this only affects about 10 percent of the vehicle’s electric range.
It has an optional roof rack for additional storage. For those who love to camp in the wilderness, the Canoo electric pickup truck can accommodate camper shells.
Heading inside, the layout is fairly simple, capable of accommodating two people. But it can be adjusted to fit an extra passenger. A wide digital screen, just ahead of the squared-off steering wheel, displays information like speed and charge levels.
Under the hood, it is provided with single and dual-motor configurations. The dual-motor setup delivers 600PS of power and 746 Nm of torque. Canoo claims a range of upto 322km on a single charge with a payload capacity of 816kg.
For those hoping to get their hands on one of these, it’ll be a long wait as customer deliveries in the US will only commence by 2023. That being said, pre-orders for the electric pickup truck will commence in the second quarter of 2021.
