If you have been eyeing the Volkswagen T-Cross as your next compact SUV, here is some positive news. The Volkswagen T-Cross has achieved a 5-star rating in the Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) safety test, which is considered the most stringent safety test in the world. The new SUV met the most stringent safety standards and was given top scores in the small MPV segment in which it was tested in Europe.
The T-Cross fared well when it came to structural rigidity. Other safety features like its front-and side airbags also performed well. Driver safety features like speed limiter, an autonomous emergency braking system for pedestrians, cyclists, city and inter-urban situations, along with a lane assist system played an important part in the safety rating for the T-Cross.
The T-Cross scored a 97 per cent in the ‘Adult Occupant Protection’ category and 86 per cent in child safety rating. It lost out a little in pedestrian safety with a score of 81 due to the lack of adequate head impact protection and mixed results in pelvis protection. In terms of safety assist scores, it managed 80 per cent, which is a commendable result. Volkswagen has had a great history in terms of safety, which is continued with the T-Cross.
These results should give a clearer picture for people who are eyeing the upcoming SUV. However, In India, the T-Cross will be based on the MQB-A0 IN platform and will not pack as many safety features as the one that was recently tested. Nevertheless, it's still expected to be plenty safe when launched in India. The T-Cross is expected to compete with rivals like the Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster. While there is no confirmed date yet, the new T-Cross is expected to hit Indian roads by 2020.
