Indian Motorcycles is not pulling any punches when it comes to its newest cruiser, the Challenger. Powered by a brand-spanking-new PowerPlus 108ci engine, Indian has thrown the gauntlet at fellow American cruiser brand Harley-Davidson. It is loaded with electronics aids and high-end hardware. Here’s the new Indian bagger covered in all angles.

Much like its other motorcycles, Indian has brought three versions of the Challenger: standard, Limited and Dark Horse. All are basically the same when it comes to the styling elements. However, the latter two have special colours.
Swanked by LED DRLs on either side, the LED headlamp looks regal. Plus, the large fairing is chassis-mounted, with an adjustable windshield coming in as standard.
Even the traditional Indian motif on the front mudguard has been tweaked with an LED strip running through its centre.
The Challenger’s teardrop-styled fuel tank is a bit similar to the one found on the Scout.
Stay connected on the ride as Indian has kitted the Challenger with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth and USB pairing for your smartphone. It is also the control panel of the motorcycle, where you can check and alter the electronic settings.
Powering the new bagger is Indian’s latest big capacity motor, the PowerPlus. Unlike the Thunderstroke 111, the PowerPlus is just a 108ci, or in layman’s terms, 1679cc, 65-degree V-twin engine. However, this motor is liquid-cooled, has a slip and assist clutch and more importantly, is Indian’s most powerful engine seen on a cruiser motorcycle. It pumps out 122.5PS and 178Nm of earth-shattering torque. Comparatively, Harley’s Milwaukee-Eight 114ci makes less torque despite packing in six cubic inches more.
The foundations of the new Challenger are suspended by 43mm upside down fork and a hydraulically-adjustable Fox monoshock.
Bringing this behemoth to a grinding halt are top-spec Brembo monobloc calipers with dual 320mm rotors on the front wheel. At the rear, there is a 298mm disc with a twin-piston caliper. Dual-channel ABS comes as standard aided with a Bosch IMU. Hence, it has cornering ABS as well as lean-sensing traction control.
We are confident that Indian will be bringing the Challenger to our country. Prices of the motorcycle should start from Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom) for the standard, with the Limited and Dark Horse commanding extra premiums.
