Indian Motorcycle Announces ‘Scout Bobber Build-Off’ Challenge

In a bid to promote custom motorcycle building, Indian Motorcycle has announced 'The Wrench: Scout Bobber Build-Off', which will kickoff on March 15 and conclude on March 30, 2018. Indian will select three amateur builders through a series of submissions and crown a winner, who will walk away with a grand prize of $10,000.

“We wanted to create a program that would celebrate the unsung heroes who spend countless hours wrenching on their bikes," said Indian's Senior Director of Marketing and Product Planning, Reid Wilson.

However, to enter the competition you must be a completely amateur builder. Each participant will have two weeks to submit a 500 word write-up explaining his/her proposed build plans and why he/she deserves to enter the competition. Participants will also need to include a sketch or a digital rendering of their design along with their write-up.

Indian will showcase select submissions online, where the general public will vote for their favourite. Based on the voting, the top three participants will then be given a stock 2018 Indian Scout Bobber and a budget of $ 10,000 to customise it. The completed builds will be unveiled at Sturgis, South Dakota, in July. The winner will be selected by a panel of judges consisting of legendary custom motorcycle builders Satya Kraus, Jason Paul Michaels and editor in chief of Hot Bike Magazine, Jordan Mastagni.

Coming to the bike itself, the Indian Scout Bobber is based on the Indian Scout. However, in true Bobber fashion, it sports a chopped front fender and a rear mudguard along with fat tyres. Powering the motorcycle is the same 1133cc, V-Twin motor that we have seen on the Indian Scout. This mill churns out 95PS of power and 97Nm of torque at 5600rpm. It is currently priced at Rs 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom India).

Unfortunately, the challenge is only America-specific for now. But, given the rising popularity of custom bike building in India, that might change soon. Till then, we can only keep our fingers crossed.
