Indian Motorcycles has issued a recall affecting several models in its product lineup. The recalled models seem to have an issue with their ignition systems. As of now, over 18,000 units seem to be affected by the recall. The affected models are Roadmaster, Chieftain, Vintage, Dark Horse, Chief Classic and Chieftain Dark Horse. These models come equipped with the Thunder Stroke 111 engine and the units manufactured between April 15, 2013 and June 16, 2015 have been recalled.
Indian has recalled the bikes to fix an engine misfiring issue that can result in increased fire risk. The issue may cause unburned fuel to pass through the exhaust system, raising exhaust temperatures and increasing the risk of fire. The fix involves an update to the ECU and Indian will notify the owners of the bikes about the same. The owners can take their bikes to the company dealerships where the issue will be fixed free of cost.
So far, Indian has not announced recall of its models sold in India. As a result, there is no information available on how many affected units are plying on the country's roads. However, an official announcement from Indian Motorcycles in India is expected to take place soon. Indian Motorcycles sells its entire range of motorcycles in India and the company recently launched the Scout Sixty in the country.
