The Indian Springfield is named after the birthplace of Indian Motorcycles in Massachusetts. The bike is styled similar to the Chief Classic except for the hard panniers replacing the leather saddlebags on the Chief. It also gets a quick-detach clear windshield. The panniers and the windscreen can be easily unclipped which means the bike can be converted from a bagger to a cruiser effortlessly.
Cycle parts have changed. The Springfield uses a tourer-oriented frame geometry and a tourer steering head that give it less trail. The rake is now 25-degree with just 133mm of trail which has made the new cruiser motorcycle nimbler than its siblings. Also the chassis of the motorcycle has been stiffened further to carry heavier loads, 242kg of passenger and luggage to be precise. These modifications translate to better handling on the open road.
Powering the new Indian Springfield is the 1,811cc V-twin motor that makes 102Nm of torque at just 2600rpm. The huge powerplant is mated to a 6-speed transmission.Other goodies on the Indian Springfield include adjustable passenger footboards, ABS, tyre pressure monitors, cruise control along with front and rear crash bars are all standard.
The Indian Springfield will be brought here as a CBU and is priced at Rs 30.6 lakh ex-showroom Delhi. It will be offered in two shades of red and black. The bike will be sold through all six Indian dealerships namely - Gurgaon, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
