The Japanese are expanding - and this time we're talking about the brand they call Infiniti. The performance luxury brand has been well received in Europe and the Japs probably thought - what better way to get to the Europeans than to show off at the Goodwood festival of speed! So they packed in two cars that they thought would gather a whole lot of interest and sent them on to the hill climb.
The Essence is a concept that celebrates 20 years of history at Infiniti as a creator of performance cars. Read between the lines there and you can safely assume that the Essence quite simply shows the world what future Infinitis are going to look like - and if that is true, we sure are liking the way things are going! The Essence is powered by a 600PS petrol/electric hybrid at the rear wheels which translates into some amazing wheel spinning fun. This by the way, was the first public performance of the Essence as it took on the Goodwood hill climb.
More importantly, it was also the first outing for the new G37 convertible in right-hand drive form for the UK. This car, unlike the Essence, is set to go on sale in September there and sports a 320PS V6 engine. The convertible gets shelter by a three-piece folding roof and is designed to look great with the top up or down. Now that the G37 Convertible is available in right hand drive guise, maybe it's time Nissan considered getting it to India as well - but there's that small problem of it being branded an Infiniti and not a Nissan. Too bad!
