The Japanese bikemaker has patented the scrambler in India, but…

Honda has filed a design patent for the CL300 scrambler in India. This bike is already on sale overseas and is based on the Rebel 300. The patent was filed on Feb 20, 2023, and was journaled earlier this month.

The Honda CL300 borrows design elements from the CL500 scrambler, hence the same minimalist styling with retro touches. Bits like the dual-purpose tyres and the high-mounted exhaust add to the ruggedness.

Powering the CL300 is a 286cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that belts out 26PS and is paired with a slip-and-assist clutch. It gets a telescopic fork and dual shock absorbers, with disc brakes at both ends backed by dual-channel ABS.

Now, is this arsenal enough to take on the upcoming Triumph-Bajaj Scrambler? We don’t think so. Going by the spy shots, the smallest Triumph packs premium hardware, and could likely have more performance too.

Honda earlier patented a bunch of products in India, including the ADV 350, CRF190L and the PCX Electric. However, most of these won’t be making it to our market, and the next product in line could be a cruiser based on the CB350 platform. So, if you want a Honda scrambler now, the only option is getting the CB350RS with the SUV custom kit. Else, you can check out the Zontes GK350 and the Husqvarna Svartpilen 250.
