Jaguar will unveil the F-Type AWD at the Los Angeles Auto Show on 19 November. The news comes with a tie-up between Jaguar and the Bloodhound Project, with the aim of achieving a land speed record of 1000mph (1610kmph) that will be attempted in 2015 in the Bloodhound Supersonic Car. While the technical partnership with Bloodhound seems to be talking point of the official announcement, we are interested in the F-Type’s expanding breadth of talents with the AWD version.
Jaguar says that the F-Type range will grow from six to 14 derivatives in 2015, and there’s little guessing with this announcement that the convertible will also get its all wheel drive versions. The F-Type has developed a reputation for being a particularly tail happy sports car that gives preference to boyish driving joys over time warping around a track but with the AWD variants, Jaguar aims to tie up the wag for more dynamic stability (translates to a quicker car on road and track).
The Jaguar F-Type R AWD Coupe will reach 100kmph from standstill in less than 3.9 seconds with a limited top speed of 300kmph. Power will still be biased towards the rear wheels to keep intact the character of the car but AWD ensures better stability in the wet and slippery road conditions. Cornering strengths and in turn track pedigree goes up with the AWD version.
