It’s no hidden secret that the era of the internal combustion engines is drawing to a close. With many countries moving towards more stringent emission norms, expect the sales of vehicles powered by internal combustion engines to take a hit soon. So, it doesn’t surprise us when various manufacturer announce that they are heavily investing in electric vehicles (EVs). The latest to join the electric bandwagon is British car manufacturer, Jaguar Land Rover. The Tata-owned company has announced that it will invest a whopping $18 billion for the development of EVs over the next three years.
Yes, you read that right. The automaker will be investing a sum equalling a small nation’s GDP towards developing new products and technology for the EV sector. After three years, the company says it will operate its spend at about 13 per cent of its total sales.
Although the British marquee has a slew of cars powered by internal combustion engine, the same cannot be said about their electric portfolio. Deliveries of the I-Pace electric SUV are about to commence and Jaguar has already received a stack of orders for it. Apart from the I-Pace, Jaguar also operates its own Formula E team and also has its own electric road-racing series called the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy. The carmaker also made the gorgeous E-Type Zero concept, which was used to ferry the latest royal couple.
With many carmakers, including Volvo, planning to develop a significantly large EV portfolio, it’s no surprise that Jaguar Land Rover wants to go all-in the EV segment. So don’t be surprised to see more products like the I-Pace soon. Heck, we could even see an all-electric, all-conquering Range Rover too! As blasphemous as it may sound for some, electric cars are the future. And with the world moving forward, the new-age e-Jags might actually be a whole of fun.
