In order to bridge the gap between the Renegade and the Grand Cherokee Fiat Chrysler has been working on the new C SUV for a while now. The car was expected to make its official debut at the 2016 New York Auto Show next week, but the project seems to be delayed as certain reports suggest that the Jeep C SUV is still under development.

The Jeep C SUV or the Jeep 551 as it is internally called is yet to be christened and is expected to replace the Compass in the international market. Based on the numerous spy shots that have been making rounds on the internet, this new offering from Jeep is expected to look identical to the Grand Cherokee.

As far as the Indian market is concerned, Jeep will locally assemble the C SUV at the Fiat factory in Ranjangaon. The car is expected to be powered by a 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel unit that will pump about 170 horses. When launched, the C SUV will go against the likes of the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour.

But before the C SUV comes to India or sees the production line, Jeep will officially mark its entry in India. While at that time Jeep will have the Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler, the C SUV will also make its way to India.
