It is based on the Compass 5-seater.
Looks longer and gets bits like a sleek front grille and LED headlights, low-mounted LED DRLs,and Grand Cherokee-like taillights.
Cabin looks identical to the Compass, aside from the suede brown fabric upholstery all over.
The India-spec model could get 2-litre petrol and diesel engines with automatic transmissions and an all-wheel drivetrain.
The India launch is slated to happen in 2022, and could be called the Meridian.
Jeep’s upcoming 7-seater SUV, has surfaced in Brazil via a promotional video ahead of its official launch on August 26, 2021. Called the Commander Overlord, (could be called Meridian in India) it is based on the Compass 5-seater, but it's got a bigger presence via a 7-seater layout and its own distinguishing bits inside and out.
At a glance, the Commander Overlord’s overall silhouette looks similar to the Compass, yet boasts an imposing stance despite it getting cleaner lines in comparison. Of course it is longer, thanks to the third row. Up front there’s a slimmer grille with the slats blending in nicely with the new slimmer LED headlights. Interestingly, the LED DRLs are positioned just above the fog lamps with large air dams on the front bumper.
The rear end is clearly inspired from the Grand Cherokee with a clean design, an upright tailgate, and a slim set of taillights. An interesting set of alloy wheels rounds off the overall design.
Head inside, and the Commander Overlord looks pretty much identical to the Compass, but gets a nice brown suede fabric upholstery. While a features list hasn’t been revealed, the video showcases the steering-mounted controls, 10.25-inch digital driver display, and the 10.1-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system. It should also get ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, and a branded audio system.
Safety kit could include multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, electric parking brake, electronic stability control, and possibly the ADAS range of assists like the MG Gloster including autonomous emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.
Technical specs are yet to be revealed, but the India-spec model could get a the Compass’ retuned 170PS 2-litre diesel, and the 268PS 2-litre turbo-petrol engine from the Wrangler. Both engines could be paired with a 9-speed automatic gearbox for the diesel engine, an 8-speed automatic for the petrol mill, and an all-wheel drivetrain.
Expect further details on the Jeep Commander Overland to surface when it is launched on August 26, 2021. For India, Jeep’s 7-seater SUV (possibly the Meridian) will arrive in 2022 with prices likely to start from Rs 35 lakh. It will take on the likes of the Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster, Mahindra Alturas G4, and the VW Tiguan Allspace.
