Jeep’s most affordable offering, the Compass, has achieved a milestone that other FCA products in the country can only dream of. The baby Jeep has surpassed the 10,000 sales milestone in less than five months since its launch in India on July 31, 2017. Clearly, it has received the attention FCA anticipated and the carmaker now wants to cash in on it. How? By hiking its prices. Yes, apart from the entry-level Sport (petrol) variant, which costs Rs 15.16 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), all other variants will receive a price hike ranging between 2-4 per cent from January 1, 2018.

If we take those numbers into account, ex-showroom prices of the Compass are slated to go up by Rs 31,980 to Rs 85,480 depending on the variant and powertrain options. However, Kevin Flynn, president and MD of FCA India, is confident that the Compass will remain a compelling product in the new year.

The made-in-India Jeep Compass is not just an important product for the company in the domestic market, but also for all other right-hand drive markets around the globe. The only production plant in the world that produces the right-hand drive Compass is the one in Ranjangaon, near Pune. FCA shipped 600 units of the baby SUV to Japan and Australia in October this year and it has already gone on sale in the former market.

In India, the Compass is offered in a total of 10 variants - three petrol and seven diesel. The 1.4-litre petrol motor, which produces 163PS/250, is available with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic transmission. The diesel, on the other hand, can be had only with a 6-speed manual gearbox which makes good use of the 173PS/350Nm oomph available from the 2.0-litre motor. Next year, we expect Jeep to launch the hardcore Trailhawk variant along with a diesel automatic variant of the Jeep Compass.
