The two new variants - Longitude and Limited Plus - get the same diesel-automatic setup as the Compass Trailhawk
  • The Longitude diesel AT is Rs 4.84 lakh more affordable than the Trailhawk.
  • Both variants come with cruise control and auto-start stop system as standard.
  • Under the hood is a BS6-compliant 2.0-litre Multijet diesel mated to a 9-speed automatic.
  • Bookings have commenced across all Jeep dealerships in India.

Jeep India has introduced the diesel-automatic powertrain in the lower-spec Longitude and Limited Plus variants of the Compass. Both variants utilise the same BS6-compliant AWD powertrain found in the top-spec Trailhawk variant. There’s still no two-wheel-drive diesel-automatic variant in the Compass lineup. The Longitude AT and Limited Plus are priced a whopping Rs 4.84 lakh and Rs 1.81 lakh lower than the Trailhawk (which was the only diesel automatic option available up until now). Earlier, we had reported that the Compass Limited Plus Diesel AT will be priced at Rs 25 lakh, which has turned out to be true. Meanwhile, here are the prices of the new variants along with that of the Trailhawk for reference:

Variant Price (ex-showroom)
Jeep Compass Longitude Diesel AT Rs 21.96 lakh
Jeep Compass Limited Plus Diesel AT Rs 24.99 lakh
Jeep Compass Trailhawk Diesel AT Rs 26.80 lakh

Both variants utilise the same BS6-compliant 2.0-litre Multijet engine found in the top-spec Compass Trailhawk. It develops 170PS of power, 350Nm of torque and comes mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. It must be mentioned that both new diesel-AT variants will be available in 4x4 guise only. Jeep has incorporated AdBlue technology to make the 2.0-litre engine comply with the upcoming emission norms.

Both models will come with cruise control and auto-start stop system as standard. These were features that were exclusive to the Trailhawk before. Other common features include Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone climate control, Jeep’s SelecTerrain AWD system, a touchscreen infotainment system, ESP, traction control, steering-mounted audio controls as well as an electric parking brake.

The Limited Plus further adds a bigger 8.4-inch infotainment, panoramic sunroof, a dual-tone paint scheme, bi-xenon headlamps, powered front seats, auto dimming IRVM, 6 airbags as well as an auto-dimming IRVM.

The introduction of these two new diesel automatic variants are a welcome addition as the Trailhawk was priced out of reach at Rs 26.80 lakh. With the current variants, the Compass will appeal to a wider audience who are on the lookout for a diesel automatic SUV. Jeep has also informed that bookings and test drives for the new variants have opened at all Fiat dealerships across the country.
