Could launch in early 2020

  • BS6 petrol mill makes 7PS more than its BS4 counterpart. Torque figures are likely to remain the same.
  • The model being tested is the barebones Sport variant of the Compass.
  • The BS6 Sport petrol variant is expected to continue with the 6-speed MT and FWD setup as per a spec sheet.
  • It currently retails at a price range between Rs 14.99 lakh and Rs 23.11 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

While it is yet to be known whether the Jeep Compass will get a BS6 compliant diesel-automatic variant, there’s at least some hope for a more powerful petrol variant. A test mule was spotted testing a 170PS 1.4-litre MultiAir petrol mill as per a spec sheet on the rear window. In addition to this, the document also reveals that the petrol engine is BS6 compliant. These figures give the new petrol engine is a power boost of 7PS over its current BS4 compliant predecessor. Expect Jeep to launch the BS6 compliant Compass around early 2020.

Spy images further reveal that the Compass being tested is in its base Sport trim as well as in a 6-speed FWD layout. Since the BS4 compliant Sport trim is limited to a 6-speed manual gearbox and FWD drivetrain, expect the same when it gets the BS6 upgrade. The torque figures to remain the same as well at 250Nm.

The Sport variant is the most barebones variant of the Compass lineup with features such as a 5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Uconnect, 16-inch steel wheels, quad halogen headlamps, height adjustable driver’s seat, and remote keyless entry. It also gets other equipment like driver and passenger airbags, traction control, ABS+EBD, EBD as well as hill assist.

Jeep India currently sells the Compass at a price range between Rs 14.99 lakh and Rs 23.11 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) in a total of five variant trims. During the festive season back in October, Jeep India has been offering discounts upto Rs 1.75 lakh on select variants. Unfortunately, the top-spec Trailhawk trim didn’t receive any such discounts. It rivals the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Mahindra XUV500 as well as the Tata Harrier.
