Amid all the GST haphazardness and price fluctuations, Jaguar Land Rover has silently slipped in a few changes to its lineup here in India. Though prices have gone down across the range of cars, JLR has decided not to carry forward some variants. As a result, we no longer have the entire range of Discovery 4, diesel variants of the XJ, and the V6 variants of the F-Type. On the bright side, Land Rover has introduced the Short Wheelbase variants of the Range Rover, which now makes it more affordable. Moreover, the 2018 F-Type has been launched with the V8 mill.
The 2018 F-Type comes with subtle cosmetic updates and just the 5-litre V8 mill powering all the wheels. All the 3-litre V6 variants have been discontinued and just the 'R' and 'SVR' variants, in both coupe and convertible body types, are on sale now. Prices of the F-Type now start at Rs 2.08 crore for the Coupe R (ex- showroom, Delhi).
The V8 engine powering the British sports car is a 5,000cc mill mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. This transmission sends power to an AWD system. The 550PS/680Nm from the engine propels the coupe from 0-100kmph in 4.1 seconds and up to a top speed of 300kmph. The convertible, on the other hand, is faster to the 100kmph mark with 3.9 seconds but has the same top speed. The more powerful SVR variants produce 575PS/700Nm from the same engine and the coupe has a 0-100kmph time of 3.7 seconds with a top speed of 322kmph. The convertible SVR also gets to the 100 mark in same time but has a top speed of 314kmph. The top speed of the SVR variants reduces to 300kmph if fitted with the deployable rear spoiler.
The subtle changes in the F-type include full-LED headlamps, DRLs which double up as front indicators, single aperture lozenge mesh grille and a darker tail lamp cluster. Inside, the F-Type gets new lightweight Slimline seats which are about 7.7 kg lighter and has extra backrest and cushioning. In the SVR, you get Siena Tan leather seats as an option and satin chrome-finished engine start button and gearshift paddles are standard. You now also have an option to get the carbon-fibre central console to further save weight as well.
Jaguar XJL
Another change in the Jaguar Lineup is the removal of diesel-powered variants from XJL's lineup. This means that the 3.0-litre Premium Luxury and the 3.0-litre Portfolio are no longer on sale. What's left is a single variant, the 2.0-litre petrol Portfolio, which is priced at Rs 97.39 lakh without taxes across India. This engine is a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol mill which is capable of producing 240PS of power and 340Nm of torque and is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
Moving to the Land Rover side of the family, there have been two major changes. First, the Discovery 4 has been discontinued as the Discovery 5 is on the cards. Then the short wheelbase variant of the Range Rover has been introduced and hence, the range now starts from Rs 1.58 crore for the 3.0-litre diesel Vogue variant.
