Though the new bike commands a premium of Rs 50,000 over its predecessor, the 250R, Kawasaki has loaded the Ninja 300 with lots of goodies

Although it was no secret what the Ninja 300 looked like, we had been waiting in anticipation to find out how much power it produced and all the relevant technical specifications of the new bike. Bajaj Auto has finally put to rest all the speculation and rumour regarding the bike’s final pricing and other details by launching the Ninja 300 at Rs 3.5 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The new bike has been priced Rs. 50,000 more than its predecessor and though the hike appears to be significant, it gains a mere 50cc over its older sibling. But don’t forget the new Ninja has been revised from the ground-up completely with power hiked by 6PS and features like slipper clutch which is unheard of in this segment. Visually, the bike is unlike its 250cc sibling which it replaces. The designers at Kawasaki have taken a lot of effort in making the baby Ninja look more aggressive and were clearly inspired from its litre-class sibling the ZX-10R. Amalgamating form and function, the new compact design of the machine has been sketched keeping in mind the revised placing for the radiator fan, which helps in redirecting hot air away from the rider, a major problem faced in hot weather regions like India. But changes made to the Ninja 300 are not only cosmetic; on the mechanical front it gets a revised liquid-cooled, fuel-injected 296cc parallel-twin engine. The new mill boasts a longer stroke, new aluminium die-cast cylinder, which is lighter by 600gm that helps it in pumping out an impressive 39PS of power and 27Nm of torque. Also, the Ninja 300 gets a new 2-into-1 exhaust system which has been tuned by boffins at Kawasaki for better sport performance and even torque delivery. The Ninja 300 gets loaded with goodies like race-bred FCC Assist & Slipper clutch mechanism for back-torque limiting, new digital instrument cluster and fatter tyres. The only grouse with the new bike is that Kawasaki haven't equipped it with ABS or even given it as an option for the Indian consumers. One of the major criteria for Kawasaki engineers was to keep the weight of the new bike as low as possible and they achieved it with liberal use of aluminium. The Ninja 300 with ABS weighs just 174kg which translates to a power-to-weight ratio of 224PS/Tonne. Kawasaki has launched the bike in two colour options, Lime Green and Pearl Dust White. Whether the new Ninja 300 will be able to ape the success achieved by its 250-cc sibling only time will tell, but Kawasaki have a worthy successor in their hands. Kawasaki Ninja 300 Price
