Kawasaki Motors announced that it plans to participate in the 2016 edition of Bonneville Speed Week. The Japanese manufacturer will be represented by Team 38 who will be riding the Kawasaki Ninja H2R hyperbike. Kawasaki had planned to participate in the speed run last year but due adverse weather conditions which resulted in flatland getting submerged it had to enter the “Mojave Mile” event instead. Despite the fact that the bike only had 1.6km straight to register its top speed from a standing start, the Kawasaki Ninja H2R clocked an incredible 348.2kmph! According to Kawasaki owing to the shorter track length the full potential of the Ninja H2R’s powerplant wasn’t utilised.

The Bonneville Speed Week has a straight line of 8km which is five times that of the Mojave Mile and Kawasaki is confident in breaching the 350kmph mark. The event has been scheduled from August 13th to 19th and we hope the Ninja H2R is able to set a record. To give you an idea of the Ninja H2R’s performance in straight line is the fact that the Ducati Desmocidici GP16 recently recorded the highest top speed in MotoGP at Mugello clocking 354.9kmph. The Kawasaki Ninja H2R isn’t a street legal motorcycle and has been developed as a track-specific model by the Japanese two-wheeler giant. Kawasaki engineers say their primary focus on the H2R was brisk acceleration and for this purpose they employed a supercharger that was developed from Kawasaki’s extensive knowledge with turbines. Powering the Kawasaki Ninja H2R is a supercharged 998cc, in-line-four motor that churns out over 300PS of peak power. This means the Kawasaki Ninja H2R is the most powerful production motorcycle on planet Earth.
