Kawasaki India had launched the KX100 and KX250 off-roading bikes in India in December. Now, the manufacturer will be adding one more bike to the new segment it has created in our two-wheeler space. Scheduled to be launched on January 22, the KLX 140 will the third bike to join Kawasaki’s off-road bikes portfolio. The bike is a lightweight, easy-to-ride, trail-ready motorcycle which is ideal for beginner riders. The KLX 150 will be a non-road legal bike like the KX100 and KX250 and can be used only in closed circuits. The bike has a saddle height of around 780mm thus providing a comfortable riding position for adults as well.
Belonging to the midsized category, the bike has been built on a steel perimeter frame. It is powered by a high revving 144cc 4-stroke, fuel-injected, single-cylinder mill that is coupled to a 5-speed gearbox with a manual clutch.
The bike comes with long travel 33mm telescopic forks at the front and a link-type monoshock at the rear with five-way preload adjustability. The setup offers a travel of 180mm at both ends, making it capable of tackling off-road conditions without any trouble. For braking, it comes with a 220mm petal disc with a dual-piston calliper at the front and a 186mm petal disc with single-piston calliper at the rear. The bike comes with special off-roading tyres mounted on spoked wheels, 17" at the front and 14" at the rear.
The KLX 140, when launched, will sit between the KX100 and KX250 currently offered in India, and will be priced around the Rs 3.5 lakh mark.
