Chinese electric two-wheeler manufacturer Yadea Group has unveiled the C1S electric scooter at the 2019 EICMA. An interesting fact about this curvy, retro-looking scooter is that it has been designed by KISKA — the design company that created KTM’s mad machines. Yadea says the C1S will be launched in European countries such as Germany, France, Holland, Spain in spring 2020 (mid-2020).
An electric motor with a peak output of 6kW and a maximum torque of 138Nm (at the wheel) powers this electric scooter. This torque output isn't all that surprising because electric motors generally use torque multipliers at the wheel for maximum pulling power. This motor is linked to a pair of 72V-20 Ah Panasonic lithium-ion batteries, which offer a claimed top speed of 80kmph and a combined range of about 100km. Yadea says the battery gets a 1200-charge cycle life and can last up to five years. Using a fast charger, the two batteries take around 5.5 hours to charge completely.
Notable features of this scooter include geo-fencing, app-based connectivity, keyless ignition, self-sensing headlight, anti-theft alarm, parking gear and even a reverse gear. The reverse gear feels a little pointless considering the scooter itself weighs only 105kg. Additionally, it also comes with vehicle diagnostics and Eco mode to extract more range.
The underpinnings of this scooter are pretty conventional. It employs telescopic fork up front and a pair of shock absorbers at the rear. Brakes include disc on both ends with CBS as an option. Despite packing two batteries, the underseat storage stands at an impressive 25 litres, which should suffice for most scooter users.
Now with the electric vehicle movement gathering pace in India, there have been several new entrants in this burgeoning segment. We wouldn’t be surprised if Yadea Group announces its entry in the Indian market in the near future. Even though it’s a Chinese company, the perception towards China-made products is slowly changing, at least when it comes to premium electric vehicles. Being a brand associated with KISKA, we hope Yadea makes a strong impact in our market, just like CFMoto did. If the C1S comes to India, it will be a good rival to the Ather 450 and the Okinawa i-Praise.
