The much awaited compact sports bikes from Bajaj Auto’s Austrian partner have been launched. The company has introduced KTM RC 390 and RC 200 in India at a lip-smacking price of Rs 2.05 lakh and Rs 1.60 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
The new KTM bikes are based on the successful KTM Duke 390 and Duke 200, but what sets the RC range apart is its sports-bike-like full fairing, twin headlamps, new fuel tank and tail section, fairing integrated underbelly exhaust and mirror mounted turn indicators. Interestingly, there are visible traces of the KTM RC8 superbike design, which work well for smaller RC bikes.
The riding geometry on the KTM RC 390 and RC 200 are also very different from the Duke model, thanks to the sporty clip-on handlebars and further pushed back footpegs, which create a more hunkered down riding position on the RC duo.
Like the KTM Duke 390, the KTM RC 390 comes with a single-cylinder, liquid-cooled 375cc motor producing 43.6PS of power and 35Nm of torque and is mated to a six-speed transmission. Similarly, the KTM RC 200 shares the powertrain with the KTM 200 Duke. It is powered by a single-cylinder, liquid-cooled 199.5cc engine capable of 25.3PS of power and 19.2Nm of torque.

The trellis frame might look visually similar to the Duke streetbike range, but on the RC range it has been tweaked to offer sportier dynamics, fit for the race track. The steering head angle has been fixed at 66.5-degree instead of 65-degree, which has resulted in a shorter wheelbase making the RC range more agile and sharper. In fact, even the ground clearance has been raised.
The new bikes come equipped with 43mm upside-down fork from WP Suspension on the front; similar to the one found on the KTM RC8 R. At the back is a WP Suspension sourced mono-shock to match the light weight alloy swingarm. The KTM RC 390 sports Metzelers tyres on 17-inch alloy wheels, while the smaller KTM RC 200 comes with MRF tyres.
Braking is done by Brembo developed four piston, radially mounted calliper in combination with 300mm disc in front and 230mm disc at rear, with ABS offered as standard on the KTM RC 390. After the redesign the fuel tank capacity has been reduced to 10-litres, however the RC 390 and RC200 have become heavier than their naked street cousins, weighing 147kg and 137.5kg respectively.
Price: KTM RC 390 is priced at Rs 2.05 lakh and KTM RC 200 is priced at Rs 1.60 lakh respectively (ex-showroom Delhi).
