  • Kymco has taken the wraps off its RKS 150 maxi-style scooter at the 2021 Beijing International Motorcycle Show. It will be sold in markets like Europe, America, Asia, Central and South America. The growing popularity of maxi-style scooters drove Kymco to come up with a strong scooter portfolio comprising both conventional and maxi-style scooters.

The RKS 150 is largely inspired by the S350 which was unveiled in early February this year. That said, it does get some unique design touches that help set itself apart. While the front fascia is pretty similar to the S350 and mirrors the proportions of a maxi-scooter, everything beyond that point is sleeker and sharper and flows well with the aggressive styling of the scooter.

Its feature list includes full LED lights running DRLs, a tall windscreen, a full-digital LCD instrument console, keyless ignition, a USB charging port and a premium dual-tone seat.

Powering the scooter is a sophisticated Euro-5 compliant 149cc fuel-injected liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine putting out 15PS at 8000rpm and 13.2Nm at 6500rpm. In comparison, the Aprilia SXR 160 sold in India makes a humble 11PS and 11.6Nm.

The hardware is pretty straightforward -- a telescopic fork, twin rear shocks, disc brakes at both ends with dual-channel ABS.

All this sounds exciting, but unfortunately for us, it won’t make it to India anytime soon. Partly because Kymco’s India operations never really took off in 2019, and partly because India as a market isn't quite ready for a premium 150cc maxi-scooter.  That should hopefully change in the near future.
