One of the models could be a successor to the Aventador as it celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.
V12 motors could utilise the Sián’s 48-volt mild-hybrid technology.
Decision seems like the obvious call since 2020 was Lamborghini’s second-best year ever for turnover and sales.
With the auto industry embracing the electric revolution, you’d think that it's almost an inevitability that we most likely will say goodbye to the screaming naturally aspirated V12 motors of the good old days. Well, not on Lamborghini’s watch, as the carmaker has confirmed that it’ll unleash two V12 models later this year.
While Lamborghini is yet to spill the beans on the upcoming V12 models, there’s a chance that one of them might be the successor to the Aventador. And it would seem sensible to introduce it now since the Aventador celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.
As for the second new V12 model, details are pretty scarce, but the V12 engines for the two new Lamborghini models might utilise the same 48-volt mild-hybrid setup as the Sián hypercar. Basically, it uses supercapacitors instead of a lithium-ion battery, which has the advantage to store up to ten times more power while being three times lighter than a battery. The Sián's V12 is a 6.5-litre naturally aspirated dinosaur that delivers 785PS of grunt at 8500rpm. Combine the additional 34PS boost from the mild-hybrid setup, and you get 819PS of power. Paired with a 7-speed automatic that distributes power to all four wheels, the Sián can sprint from standstill to 100kmph in just 2.8 seconds, with a top speed of 350kmph.
This announcement from Lamborghini also makes sense since 2020 was its second-best year ever for turnover and sales. As a whole, quite encouraging for the purists as the symphony of the V12 motor will continue to soldier on in a Lamborghini model for now.
