Ladies and gentlemen, this is it! Lamborghini has revived the Countach nameplate for its latest limited run supercar to celebrate the iconic model’s 50th anniversary. And boy, the folks at Sant’ Agata Bolognese have just nailed it.
The Countach has a rich history associated with it. The original model was unveiled in 1974 and was available in showrooms till 1990 (with constant updates), making it one of the longest periods a Lambo was ever on sale. So it’s quite easy to understand how popular this model was, right? Clearly, the folks at Lamborghini knew that they can’t mess this up while recreating it. And thank goodness, they didn’t.
The sleek headlamps, rectangular wheel arches, square air intakes, louvres behind the cabin, and the overall silhouette all nod back respectfully to its successor. Even the sharp pointy nose with the ‘Countach’ badging is very... Countach-like. But this is the present day and Lamborghini has finely incorporated modern day touches as well.
The alloy wheels might be a bit reminiscent to its successor, but its very modern with its sleek design. And if you were to ask, the ‘hexagonita’ tail lamps give the rear-end character. And last but not least, the quad exhausts with the aggressively styled splitter is indeed…. Lamborghini. And the silhouette in itself is very reminiscent of its successor.
Open that legendary scissor doors and you are greeted to a new modern day Lamborghini cabin with twin screens comprising the digital instrument display and 8.4-inch infotainment system. So if you ask me how this harks back to its original, well the red finish on the lower half is inspired by the Countach 25th Anniversary edition’s cabin, finished in… red. Countach badging reminds you that you’re sitting in something special.
Fun Fact: Fancy learning about the Countach’s design? Click the design ‘Stile’ (Design) button on the dash and the car gives you a lesson about it.
Now, to the engine, and there’s no downsizing done here. A 6.5-litre V12 developing 780PS of sheer force sits behind the passenger compartment, combining a 48V mild hybrid system for 34PS of additional boost. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 7-speed gearbox. Performance, undoubtedly, is quick with 0-100kmph coming up in 2.8 seconds while pressing the throttle further will see the speedo climb to 355kmph.
We did say that this is a limited run sports car and only 112 will ever be made, with deliveries beginning from early 2022. And to those 112 owners, this author will always be jealous of you.
