The Geneva Motor Show is one of the most important events in the annual automotive calendar, especially for the European manufacturers who take this opportunity to unveil some of their most delectable offerings in their home turf. Lamborghini has in the past unveiled such special editions as the topless Aventador J at this hallowed ground.
Come next year, the Raging Bull is set to set some hearts racing in that very same manner again with another one of its outlandish, wildly impractical, and extremely expensive special editions at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. In an interview with AutoExpress, Stephan Winkelmann, the fiendishly suave and immaculately dressed CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, has stated that Lamborghini “will unveil a car in Geneva,” and it will have “a coupe body style.” Furthermore, the car apparently will “initiate the celebration of the 100 years.” The centenary celebration will be in honor of Lamborghini’s founder, Ferrucio Lamborghini, and the car will be called the Centenario. Ferrucio Lamborghini was born on April 28, 1916, and died on February 20, 1993, at the age of 76.
Winkelmann further adds that the Centenario will not be a one-off like the Egoista and the Aventador J, with 20 models slated to be put into a limited-series production. In that respect it looks poised to follow in the footsteps of the Veneno and Sesto Elemento instead. Lambo is clear that the car won't be in a Huracan or Aventador body, it will be completely original. In all probability, the Centenario will be powered by a modified version of the Aventador’s 6.5-litre V12.
With only 20 units being built, we reckon almost all Lamborghini Centenarios has been secretly spoken for by oil sheikhs and Russian oligarchs now retiring in tax havens. The closest we mere mortals can get to one in the flesh might just be at its unveiling in Geneva. Book your tickets.
