Ferrari has delivered on its promise to make the last – the 500th – LaFerrari. This was done not at the request of some billionaire, but to help support the victims of central Italy in the aftermath of the devastating earthquakes of 2016, which snuffed out 300 lives. The 500th LaFerrari was auctioned for $7 million, making the car the most valuable 21st century automobile ever sold at an auction.
All proceeds from the auction will go toward reconstruction efforts in the areas affected by the earthquake. The auctioned Ferrari LaFerrari has certain features that make it stand apart from its peers. For starters, it has a white line on the hood and rear windshield, providing a striking contrast with the red exterior. A tiny Italian flag on the hood serves as a reminder that this is a gift from Ferrari to its home country. The car also features a commemorative plaque reminding the owner about the cause it was built for.
Just to remind our readers of what the LaFerrari hypercar is capable of, it has a 6.2-litre V12 engine which is further supported by an electric motor, producing a combined output of 949PS. This power is transferred to the rear wheels via a seven-speed DCT gearbox, propelling the car from 0 to 100kmph in less than three seconds, and all the way to over 350kmph. The deliveries of the gorgeous Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta (LaFerrari Spyder) have also begun. If you have just seen this car and are thinking that it would look nice in your garage, we’d suggest that you banish the thought since even the Spyder is sold out.
