Lexus first previewed the concept in December 2020.
It is based on Toyota’s new e-TNGA platform.
Lexus will also debut the Direct4 drivetrain with the concept on March 30.
The Direct4 drivetrain will provide AWD functionality in Lexus’s upcoming EVs and hybrid vehicles.
Lexus has given us a sneak peek at its concept EV, revealing only the silhouette of the car to be debuted on March 30. That aside, the event will showcase the carmaker’s efforts towards brand transformation for a greener and eco-friendly future.
The concept is SUV-esque, particularly with its tall ride height, but it is the swooping roofline that resembles a coupe. In profile, the character lines indicate that the EV will get a muscular appearance. And based on the teasers, we see the concept car also features an aggressive front fascia and a wide rear with the ‘LEXUS’ lettering.
The car will be provided with Lexus’s Direct4 drivetrain -- first announced in December 2020 -- for future EVs and hybrid vehicles. As the name suggests, the drivetrain allows for an all- wheel drive layout. In pure EVs, this is achieved by motors on the front and rear axles. As for hybrids, the petrol engine will drive the front wheels and an electric motor will take care of the rear wheels.
Lexus will debut the Direct4 drivetrain with the Concept Car on March 30. Along with that, the company should also reveal its plans for electrification and contour all future efforts directed at sustainability.
