Currently, the Evija hypercar is the only all-electric offering from Lotus

  • The new architecture will offer three layouts that will accommodate two-seater sports cars and coupes.

  • A multitude of battery sizes, layouts and powertrain options will be on offer with the most powerful setup delivering up to 884PS.

  • The rear frame is claimed to be 37 percent lighter than the Emira mid-engine sports car.

  • Lotus will launch a new electric sports car in 2026.

Lotus has revealed its future roadmap by unveiling a new electric sports car platform developed under its Project LEVA (Lightweight Electric Vehicle Architecture) research programme. The British sports car maker had already made it clear during the Emira unveiling in July 2021, that all future models will be electric-only.

This new electric architecture from Lotus will accommodate up to three layouts, with the first two accommodating two-seater sports cars. The third one supports a 2+2 coupe layout. All three layouts are specced with a raft of powertrain and battery combinations. Here’s all of them in detail:

Layout

Wheelbase

Battery Size/ Layout

Battery Capacity

Powertrain Setup

Two-seater

2,470mm (Minimum)

8-module/ Mid-mounted (Chest)

66.4kWh

Single motor- 476PS

Two-seater

2,650mm+

12-module/Mid-mounted (Chest)

99.6kWh

Dual-motor- 884PS

2+2

2,650mm+

8-module/ Skateboard (Slab)

66.4kWh

Dual-motor- 884PS

A common bit shared between all three layouts is the lightweight die-cast rear sub-frame with multiple interchangeable components. In fact, Lotus claims the rear structure is 37 percent lighter than the one on the Emira with the V6 configuration.

While Lotus has yet to give proper details on the new electric models being planned, the carmaker did confirm earlier that it will launch a new electric sports car by 2026. Sure, the Evija hypercar currently sits lonely as Lotus’ only EV offering, but it is set to get siblings pretty soon.
