It looks like Tesla’s EV crown is under serious threat with mainstream carmakers beginning to take electrification of their model lineup seriously. Barely a month after Daimler head Honcho Ola Källeniu revealed a driving range of over 700km for the Mercedes-Benz EQS, Lucid has revealed a whopping Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimated driving range of 517 miles (832km) on a single charge. The electric sedan will make its debut on September 9, 2020.

This makes it more than a match if not exceeding the likes of the Tesla Model S. The Model S Long Range Plus variant has a claimed range of 647km on a single charge, calculated as per USA’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards.

A mind boggling range isn’t the only thing the Lucid Air electric sedan boasts.  The manufacturer has assured that the sedan is no slouch in terms of performance either. .  The upcoming sedan will be capable of hitting 0-96kmph in just 2.5 seconds before topping out at speeds over 322kmph. Further details on the EV’s battery capacity and powertrain layout are expected to be revealed as we get closer to the unveil date.

The Lucid Air sedan features a minimalistic yet modern design philosophy with X-factor bits like a sleek pair of headlights below the long chrome bar and turbine-style alloy wheels. Expect the production-spec model to be fairly similar when it's unveiled.

Heading inside, the Lucid Air concept is mostly digital, with an all-digital driver’s instrument display merged with the touchscreen infotainment system and a large tablet-style centre console unit. It also boasts creature comforts with optional executive rear seating. Other notable bits include autonomous tech with OTA updates.

Post its unveil, the Lucid Air is expected to go on sale by 2021. Unfortunately, it is unlikely to make it to India anytime soon.
