Hours after launching the "cars' worst nightmare", Mahindra brought fossil fuel's worst nightmare to Mysuru, Karnataka. It’s electric vehicle, the e2oPlus, is now available for rent on the Zoomcar platform in the southern city.
Along with 20 units of e2oPlus, Mahindra Electric has also installed two fast-charging stations; one at the Country Inn and the other at Garuda Mall. Charging the car will be free as Zoomcar's pricing depends on the duration of rental and kilometres driven.
Prices for driving the e2oPlus in Mysuru start at just Rs 200 for 4 hours/20km on a weekday. Covering up to 80km in four hours with the e2oPlus will cost you Rs 600 while a 24-hour rental cost ranges between Rs 1,200 for 120km to Rs 3,600 for 480km. During weekends and high demand, the e2oPlus rental prices start at Rs 280 for 4 hours/20km and an entire day costs Rs 1,680 for 120km.
The next most affordable car in Zoomcar's Mysuru portfolio is the Ford Figo, which is available at Rs 280 for 4 hours/20km and Rs 1,680/120km during weekdays. Saturdays and Sundays see the prices for the Figo go up by another 50 per cent while the electric car's prices only witness a 40 per cent surge.
Zoomcar and Mahindra Electric pose a threat to the currently-accepted car ownership model. According to the latest study published by IHS Markit on November 14, 2017, 3 lakh vehicles currently provide mobility-as-a-service (MaaS) in India, China, Europe and the United States, combined. This number is expected to shoot past the 1-crore-mark by 2040 as the MaaS sector grows. The study says that as we march forward, the number of kilometres travelled will increase but the sales of passenger vehicles will decline.
Cars are one of the most under-utilized resources. They spend about 22 hours every day in the parking lot and eventually end up in the junk with only a tenth of what they could have clocked on the odometer. All that, while giving their owners a taste of depreciation. More vehicles and fewer kilometres also mean fewer empty parking spots.
The partnership between Zoomcar and Mahindra Electric embraces the future and offers MaaS at a surprisingly affordable cost and with zero tailpipe emissions. The two companies will soon bring the e2oPlus to Delhi, Hyderabad and Chandigarh.
