Mahindra has finally launched the eKUV100 electric vehicle (EV) in India at Auto Expo 2020 for Rs 8.25 lakh. It features a claimed range of 147km, DC fast charging, and connected car features. First showcased at Auto Expo 2018, the eKUV100 is one of the most affordable EVs in India. It rivals the Tata Tigor EV and the Mahindra eVerito electric cars.
Details were scarce earlier. All we knew was that it would be powered by the all-electric eFalcon powertrain and boast a range of 140km. We had also learnt that the battery pack supports fast-charging capabilities and can charge from 0-80 percent in 50 minutes. Now, Mahindra has revealed technical details of the powertrain. It uses a 15.9kWh liquid-cooled battery pack that powers an electric motor developing 54PS and 120Nm.
The e-KUV100 looks similar to its standard ICE counterpart except for its redesigned front fascia and eFalcon badges. Its new front bumper and closed grille tell you that this is an EV. Mahindra is a bit late to the EV party as Tata has already rolled out the Nexon EV. On the flip side, the eKUV100 promises to be an affordable alternative, making a strong case for itself.
The interior of the eKUV100 is also shared with its ICE counterpart. It features a touchscreen infotainment system, steering-mounted audio controls, a multi-info display, manual AC, as well as remote and central locking.
The Mahindra eKUV100 is one of the most affordable electric vehicles on sale today. Although its limited range is going to prevent highway excursions, the eKUV100 seems a potent urban runabout. Watch this space for our first drive review.
