In a bid to build a sustainable solution in the shared mobility space, Mahindra has joined hands with cab aggregator Uber in India. The homegrown automaker will deploy only electric vehicles (EV) on the Uber platform in several cities across the country.
The duo has chosen Delhi and Hyderabad as the first two cities to add hundreds of electric vehicles to Uber’s network. Mahindra confirmed that both its EVs in the personal vehicle category will be part of the kitty. That means, the two cities will see a lot more units of the Mahindra e2oPlus and the Mahindra eVerito plying their roads. Once done, the duo will further explore the deployment of Mahindra EVs in other cities.
EVs maybe cheap to run but, at present, aren’t cheap to buy. To solve this issue and make EVs more feasible for Uber driver partners, a special package will be devised to provide Mahindra EVs at more competitive prices with attractive financing and insurance premiums. The carmaker, along with its associates, will also provide comprehensive maintenance packages.
To ensure that this tie-up meets its anticipated success, the duo will work closely with public and private players who are in the process of setting up a common charging ecosystem. Mahindra will also ensure that the required education and training, related to various aspects of EVs, is properly given to driver partners.
This isn’t the first time that these companies have come together. Apart from Mahindra being a key financier for Uber’s driver partner through Mahindra Finance, the carmaker also has its strong fleet running on the cab aggregator’s platform throughout the country.
