According to reports Mahindra’s two-wheeler division might focus its attention on premium products to increase its sales figure

Mahindra Two Wheelers (MTWL) hasn’t had a great run in the Indian market. It did get off to a good start with the Centuro that helped it establish as two-wheeler brand in the Indian market. The Centuro was indigenously developed and boasted list of features that are normally associated with cars. Owing to this factor sales of the commuter bike was good in the initial stages. But it failed to maintain its momentum and sales of the bike have slid in the recent past. Mahindra also rode in the Gusto scooter again loaded with unique features and given the fact that scooter sales have been booming in the Indian market it expected the Gusto to be its turnaround product. But the Gusto also hasn’t been able to get the sales register flowing for Mahindra. In fact overall sales have also slid from1,65,364 unit in FY2014-15 to 1,44,355 units during the last fiscal.

Owing to the above it seems that Mahindra is planning to change its strategy in the Indian market. According to reports Mahindra will now be focussing on premium products in the Indian market. It already has a presence in the premium segment in the form of the Mahindra Mojo which has recorded sales of over 500 units which is decent given its price point. We can see some new machines based on the Mojo platform in near future. Also Mahindra has acquired Peugeot scooters and we can see some high-displacement premium scooters also coming our way to take on the likes of the Vespa GTS 300. But the first new Mahindra offerings scheduled to hit Indian roads will be the 150cc commuter motorcycle that was spotted testing few months back.
