The quirky looking Mahindra KUV100 has been in the country for more than a year and a half now. Initially welcomed with open arms, the KUV craze settled down pretty soon after the Maruti Ignis was launched. But now, Mahindra is working on an update of the KUV 100 which looks to be a minor facelift. Test mules have been spotted in the country and from what we can see, the facelift KUV 100 will get a few cosmetic changes. And though the interiors have not been spied yet, we expect the updated hatchback to get some additional goodies as well.
From the front, a distinct change is the headlamps. The seemingly all new headlamp cluster, underlined by indicators, now features a dual-barrel setup. The test mule we spotted did not feature daytime running lights which suggests that it is not the top variant. The top-of-the-line KUV100 will feature DRLs and might also get projector lenses. Dare we say LEDs, Mahindra? Apart from the headlamps, no other changes could be spotted on the front profile, yet. However, this is just one of the early test mules and we expect a refreshed front bumper on the later ones.
As this is a minor facelift, the side profile, as expected, will remain the same. If Mahindra wishes to mix things up, it can offer a new set of alloy wheels, though of the same R15 dimensions. Move to the rear and the latest test mule that was spotted recently features a redesigned bumper (the older mules just had the new headlamp). Apart from that, we expect the KUV100 facelift to also feature LED elements in the taillamps.
Though interiors have not been spied yet, expected changes include a touchscreen system from the Scorpio and an automatic climate control unit, especially since both of the KUV's rivals (Hyundai Grand i10 and Maruti Ignis) flaunt these features. Other minor changes could include a new upholstery option.
Mechanically, we expect the KUV100 to retain the 1.2-litre engines - mFalcon G80 petrol and mFalcon D75 diesel. The petrol engine makes 83PS of power and 115Nm of torque, while the diesel makes 78PS of power and 190Nm of torque. Both come mated to a joystick-type-shift 5-speed manual transmission. Though we do not expect the addition of an AMT in this facelift, the addition of an automatic will truly bring it on par with the competition.
If the KUV facelift does receive all the aforementioned updates, it shall once again become competitive in the market. The Grand i10 has received a facelift this year and with the new KUV100, the segment will be refreshed. With the changes expected, the Mahinda KUV100's starting price should not see much of a hike. To put things into perspective, the top variant could see the price going up by Rs 15,000.
