The compact SUV segment of vehicles has been present for some time now and is now expanding in the Indian market. In order to tap the potential in this segment, Mahindra has launched the new NuvoSport compact SUV in India at a starting price of Rs 7.35 lakh ex-showroom Thane. The new Mahindra NuvoSport will be the successor to the aging Quanto and has been built on the third generation chassis of the Mahindra Scorpio.
The NuvoSport is designed by Mahindra’s in-house team. On the outside, it sports a macho front facia with a sleek grille and cat-eye headlamps flanked on either side. The headlamps feature a split design with LED Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs) located just above the lamps. The manufacturer has also provided a hood scoop, further accentuating the aggressive look of the compact SUV.
Moving to the profile of the NuvoSport, it gets more or less the same silhouette of the Quanto on first appearance. Mahindra has given the NuvoSport a slightly wider track to improve its road handling characteristics. At the rear, the NuvoSport looks very similar to the Quanto with new badges and minor updates. Along with the new re-styled exteriors, the company claims the NuvoSport to be the most spacious sub 4-metre offering.
Providing fire power to the compact SUV is the 1.5-litre mHawk diesel engine with a two stage turbocharger, producing 101PS of power at 3750 rpm and 240Nm of peak torque between 1600-2800 rpm. The NuvoSport will be offered with a 5-speed manual transmission and a 5-speed AMT transmitting power to the rear wheels. It will feature a Power/Eco mode, wherein the engine output can be selected for performance or fuel economy. The NuvoSport has a 60 litre fuel tank and is claimed by the manufacturer to return a mileage of 17.45kmpl.
Feature-wise, the NuvoSport gets a high seating position with eight-way driver seat adjustment, seatbelt height adjust, armrest for front and rear seats, cruise control, and electric OVRMs. On the safety front, the compact SUV is equipped with dual airbags, ABS and EBD. Mahindra has also provided the option of dual airbags and ABS for the base variant. The Mahindra NuvoSport will be offered in six colour shades.
