The Indian National Anthem played through the speakers on the temporary street circuit at the Berlin Tempelhof Airport on June 10. Mahindra Racing had scored their first ever win in the series since they began competing in 2014, with Swedish driver Felix Rosenqvist taking the coveted spot. That was not all, Mahindra actually scored a double podium in the race with German driver Nick Heidfeld finishing third.
Earlier in the day, both Mahindra drivers were able to qualify inside the top five positions; Felix starting from P3, while Nick started from P4. By the first corner, both Felix and Nick had overtaken José María López (DS Virgin Racing) to occupy the second and third positions. Felix was able to overtake pole sitter Lucas on lap 22 and kept the position till the end of the race. Meanwhile, Nick caught up with Lucas and tried to overtake too - but had to settle for a third spot on the podium.
Pumped up by the double podium finish in race 7, the Mahindra outfit was looking forward to race 8 to be held at the same circuit the next day. Qualifying brought mixed results for the team, Felix managed to finish on pole position (his second pole this season) while a technical issue saw teammate Nick starting from the opposite end of the grid in P20.
Felix had a fuss-free race, crossing the line in first position. Nick Heidfeld progressed through the field, reach P12 within the first five laps and finished P10 by the end of the race helping him score a solitary point. Felix's race win was short lived though, as he was awarded a 10-second penalty after he had an unsafe release during the mandatory car swap period. He had to settle for second place on the podium after championship leader Sébastien Buemi.
Thanks to the brilliant weekend in Berlin, Mahindra Racing now sits comfortably in third position in the championship with four more races to go. With 149 points, Mahindra Racing is just 22 points behind the ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport team. In the driver standings, Felix Rosenqvist is 3rd overall (86 points) while Nick Heidfeld is 5th overall (63 points).
