Mahindra is currently basking in the success of the Thar, which has managed to book more than 50,000 units since its launch in October 2020. The Indian SUV manufacturer will introduce nine new models by 2026, a decision communicated during the announcement of the company’s financial results for FY 2020-21.
The upcoming models include three body-on-frame, four monocoque, and two all-electric SUVs. Read about it in detail in this story:
Body-on-Frame SUVs
Mahindra will launch three more body-on-frame SUVs: the third-gen Scorpio, second-gen Bolero, and the five-door Thar. Yes, the five-door Thar is now official.
Of the three, the new Scorpio will be the first to launch by early 2022. The SUV will be larger, more feature-packed, and powerful than the existing model. Earlier, we had reported on a video of the SUV dune-bashing, which tells us that the four-wheel drivetrain will make a comeback. For all the latest updates, click here.
Then there’s the five-door Thar that will utilise the same powertrains as the existing three-door model. The last body-on-frame SUV is the second-gen Bolero, details of which are scarce at the moment. Both these SUVs will be introduced between 2023 and 2026.
Monocoque SUVs

Four new monocoque Mahindras will be introduced by 2026. The first one is the XUV700, the spiritual successor to the existing XUV500. This monocoque SUV, meant to rival the Tata Safari, will arrive around August 2021.
Post this, Mahindra will start working on the W620 SUV, which we suspect is the XUV900. It should be the flagship SUV in the XUV lineup, (probably) replacing the Alturas G4, considering SsangYong isn’t in the picture now.
The third model, codenamed V201, is likely the next-gen XUV500 that will rival the five-seater Creta.
The XUV300, the fourth monocoque SUV, will also get a generation update. The existing model is packed to the gills with features and is one of the safest SUVs in its segment. We expect the successor to follow in its footsteps.
All four will be powered by internal combustion engines. But, much to our surprise, the announcement revealed that they will be provided with all-electric powertrains as well, which will be sold alongside the standard models. The XUV300 is expected to be the first EV from this range.
Barring the XUV700, the other three monocoque SUVs will reach showrooms anywhere from 2024 to 2027.
Electric Vehicles

The demand for EVs has been steadily gathering steam (such irony!). To cash in on this, Mahindra will launch two all-electric SUVs - called Born EV1 and Born EV2 for now -- from 2025 to 2026. These two will be based on a dedicated EV platform, not borrowing their architecture from any ICE model.
So there’s your quick rundown. Of these nine SUVs, which one are you waiting for?
