The upgrade is restricted to the top-spec S9 and S11 variants of the Scorpio and comes at no extra cost
  • The Scorpio is offered in four variants: S5, S7, S9, and S11.

  • Only the top two variants, S9 and S11, get the feature addition.

  • It does not add to the cost of the Scorpio’s price, which still ranges from Rs 12.42 lakh to Rs 16.27 lakh.

The 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system of the S9 and S11 variants of the BS6 Scorpio has received a much needed upgrade. Part of the BS6 four-variant lineup launched in April 2020, the S9 and S11 both now get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The Scorpio’s lineup consists of the S5, S7, S9, and S11.

This comes as an addition to the above average features list of the Scorpio’s top-end variants. Despite offering cruise control, auto AC, projector headlamps with LED DRLs, and front fog lamps, it still lacks the connected car technology offered by its rivals in the same price range. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto may help make things more convenient through voice commands and steering-mounted controls, but cabin pre-cooling and remote start/stop is a creature comfort that will soon become a necessity.

Under the hood, it is powered by a 140PS/320Nm 2.2-litre diesel engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission as standard. Mahindra has announced that the inclusion of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are just feature upgrades and do not add to the cost of the SUV. Priced from Rs 12.42 lakh to Rs 16.27 lakh (ex-showroom), Mahindra’s ladder-frame SUV has no direct rivals, though it competes with monocoque compact SUVs that fall in the same price range like the Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, and Kia Seltos
