Since the car did not receive a positive response in the market, Mahindra decided to suspend the production of the Vibe

Mahindra & Mahindra has reportedly suspended the production of its only small car, the Verito Vibe, in India. The manufacturer has decided to stop the production of the Vibe because the hatchback did not receive a positive response.

According to Business Standard, not a single unit of the Vibe was manufactured in the current financial year. The domestic carmaker sold merely 32 units of the car in the first five months of the current financial year. Last year, Mahindra sold only 619 units of the Vento Vibe.

The Vibe is based on the Verito sedan which was launched in 2013 and had three variants the D2, D4, and the D6. Mechanically it is powered by a 1.5-litre dCi diesel motor from Renault that produces 65PS of peak power at 4,000rpm and 160Nm of peak torque at 2,000rpm.

Mahindra has reported that the Vibe has not been discontinued nor are there any plans to do so, but the production, however, is expected to remain suspended till the current stock of the car is cleared.

Mahindra's Verito Vibe could never really appeal to the Indian masses because of the car's high pricing. The car also could not go up against the likes of the Hyundai Elite i20 and the Maruti Suzuki Swift. Since, Mahindra does not have a portfolio in the small car segment, what more could have been expected from the Vento Vibe.
