Only the top-spec LX variant of the new Thar gets a 6-speed automatic transmission option
  • The previous-gen Thar did not get an automatic option.

  • Other new additions to the second-gen Thar include a turbo-petrol engine, factory-fitted roof options, a touchscreen infotainment system, and off-road statistics.

  • Mahindra has also confirmed that a five-door version of the Thar will go on sale around 2023.

Mahindra has announced that around 47 percent of the 55,000 bookings received for the Thar are for its automatic variants

The second-gen Thar was launched in October 2020, and with it came some significant updates. This included the introduction of a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox option in the Thar for the first time. The Thar’s powertrains consist of a 130PS 2.2-litre diesel unit and a 150PS 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, with a 6-speed manual transmission in addition to the automatic option.

Other new additions to the iconic off-roader also included factory-fitted roof options including convertible soft top and hard top roofs, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and off-road statistics. The Thar also gets a bunch of off-road specific features, which you can check out in detail here.
