DC2 (DC Design) has unveiled its latest design: a 6x6 Mahindra Thar.
Yes, you read that right, a six-wheel-drive version of what is an iconic Indian off-road SUV. It sits on the same wheelbase and if purchased in India, will get the same engine and transmission options as the Thar. DC is also offering this custom version with colour and trim options. Let’s take a closer look.
First off, in comparison to the boxy original, this version gets a lot more curves. For our gamer fans, DC’s futuristic version looks pretty similar to a tricked-out Brawler off-road SUV with an extra set of wheels from GTA V. Over the original Thar, it also gets an extended rear overhang using outriggers, and its appearance at the back mimics that of a pickup truck.
Inside, the dash layout is similar to the Thar’s but with a touch of added premium feel and quality. It gets the same touchscreen infotainment display, with redesigned three AC vents in the middle instead of two like in the Thar, redesigned gear levers, sporty seats, and an optional red and black colour scheme.
DC Design has confirmed that for Indian customers, the powertrains and transmission options will remain the same as the stock Thar. They consist of a 150PS 2-litre turbo-petrol and 130PS 2.2-litre diesel unit, and can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. However, it is primarily designed for Indian residents in the UK, and there the SUV will be powered by a Ford 4-litre engine and an 8-speed transmission.
It took DC 120 days to pimp out the Thar from stock. It is priced at Rs 55 lakh (plus GST, not including the price of the donor vehicle) and can be built to order. However, customers in India will have to seek legal approval before any order can be placed.
