Ever since it was launched in 2011, the XUV 500 has been one of the best-selling SUV for Mahindra. While the homegrown manufacturer introduced the updated version in 2015, the company has now decided to introduce a new W9 variant of the XUV 500 priced at Rs 15.45 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). With the launch of the new variant, the older W8 variant has now been discontinued.
The W9 variant of the XUV 500 continues to be powered by the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine that produces 140PS of power at 3750rpm and 330Nm of peak torque between 1600-2800rpm. This variant will be available with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. In the Delhi-NCR region, the XUV 500 is sold with a smaller 1.99-litre engine ever since the ban on diesel cars with engine capacity above 2000cc was introduced last year. Although the ban has been revoked, Mahindra continues to sell the XUV 500 and the Scorpio with the smaller engine.
For a sum of Rs 1.46 lakh over the W6 variant, the W9 gets features such a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with an emergency call feature and Android Auto in addition to push-button start, passive keyless entry, alloy wheels, and an electric sunroof with anti-pinch feature.
While dual airbags, ABS and EBD are standard on all variants, the W9 gets additional safety features like ESP with rollover mitigation, a rear parking camera with dynamic assist and static bending headlamps. Other features offered include a tyre pressure monitoring system and an Ecosense Technology which, according to Mahindra, helps in efficient driving by giving an ‘Ecoscore’ based on various parameters like speed, gear selection, acceleration, idling, clutch usage and brake usage.
Unlike the W10 variant, the new offering misses out on brake energy regeneration system, four-wheel-drive option, side and curtain airbags, and various other features like logo projection lamps on ORVMs, power adjustable driver seat, leather seats, window chrome lines and optional black seats and dashboard.
The Mahindra XUV 500 competes with the cars like the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Creta, and the Tata Hexa. Deliveries of Mahindra XUV 500 W9 have already started and you can book yours for an amount of Rs 20,000.
