Finally! After multiple teases throughout the week, Mahindra has announced that its upcoming sub-4m SUV will be called the 'XUV300'. Set to be Mahindra's third all-new product this financial year. Set to be Mahindra's third all-new product this financial year, the 2019 XUV300 shares its platform and styling bits with the SsangYong Tivoli. Speaking of the launch date, Mahindra says the XUV300 will hit showrooms by mid-Feb, likely shortly after the launch of the Tata Harrier and the Nissan Kicks and well before Hyundai's sub-4m SUV codenamed the QXi which is set to launch by April 2019.

While it may be based on the SsangYong car, the XUV300 features some distinctive elements like chrome-studded front grille, just like the one seen on the XUV 500. Then there's also the unique eyebrow-shaped DRLs, which again, seems to be inspired from XUV500 and the Alturas G4.

Take a peek inside and you'll again notice the similarities with the Tivoli. Here you'll find dual-tone beige-and-black interiors with leather upholstery along with an extensive list of electronics. This includes cruise control, rear parking sensors, Isofix child seat mounts and ABS with EBD. Not to mention, it'll also have segment-first features like dual-zone climate control, seven airbags, electronic sunroof and rear disc brakes. It's more expensive variants will also include HID headlamps with LED DRLs, LED tail-lamps and 17-inch alloy wheels.

The XUV300 will be offered in both diesel and petrol options. This includes a 1.5-litre diesel unit, borrowed from the Marazzo (121PS/300Nm), and a new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol motor, reported to be co-developed with SsangYong. At the time of the launch, both the engines will be mated to a 6-speed manual. Mahindra hasn't confirmed if we'll get the automatic variants yet. We expect Mahindra to price the XUV300 between Rs 8 lakh to Rs 12 lakh mark (ex-showroom). At this price point, it'll go against the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSportHonda WR-VTata Nexon and the upcoming Hyundai sub-4m SUV.
