The three-row SUV is essentially a spiritual successor to the XUV500

After numerous teasers and spy shots, Mahindra is all set to take the wraps off the XUV700 three-row SUV on August 14, a day before Independence Day. Here are five things you can expect from the spiritual successor to the XUV500:

Modern Design

The XUV700 will be the first Mahindra model to incorporate the new 'Twin Peaks’ logo, which is sleek and more upright than the rounded-off logo from before. That aside, the spy shots and teasers reveal a modern and clean design philosophy with flush-fitting door handles. Other highlights include a new front grille with a quirky slat design, LED headlights with signature C-shaped LED DRLs, five-spoke alloy wheels, and a sharp rear end with arrowhead LED tail lamps. The spy shots and teaser have also confirmed red and blue body shade options for the three-row SUV.

Premium Interior

Mahindra is leaving no stone unturned when it comes to loading the XUV700 with premiums. Previous teasers have revealed a 10.25-inch dual screen setup for the digital driver’s display with cockpit domain controller technology and the touchscreen infotainment system which will run on Mahindra’s new AdrenoX infotainment software. It will also be the first model in India to feature Alexa AI connectivity and a Sony 3D sound system with roof-mounted speakers. It’ll also be loaded with cruise control, auto headlamps and wipers, a panoramic sunroof, powered driver’s seat, keyless entry with push-button start, an air filter, and dual-zone climate control.

Advanced Safety

Mahindra has teased some interesting safety features onboard the XUV700 such as high beam assist and personalised safety alerts. It should also be loaded with multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors with a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control, driver fatigue warning, and possibly Level 1 autonomous technology with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems similar to the MG Gloster.

Powerful Propulsion

The XUV700 could get more powerful iterations of the Thar’s 130PS 2.2-litre diesel and 150PS 2-litre turbo-petrol petrol engines. While the base trim could be limited to a 6-speed manual gearbox and front-wheel drive, the top-spec trims could get a 6-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drivetrain (only one in the segment). Interestingly, the diesel engine will have four drive modes with quirky names: Zip, Zap, Zoom, and Custom (Individual).

Price And Rivals

Mahindra could commence bookings for the XUV700 tomorrow itself, with a launch possibly sometime in September. Prices are likely to start from Rs 16 lakh. It will face tough competition from three-row SUVs such as the Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus, and Tata Safari.
