The Mahindra XUV700, the spiritual successor to the XUV500, has been launched in India at Rs 11.99 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom). At present only the MX trims (with petrol and diesel) and select AX trims (petrol only) are available on sale as a 5-seater SUV. More variants with 7-seater options and all-wheel drive will be available in the future.

If you have been waiting to have a detailed look at the XUV700, you are in the right place as we explain about it below in ten detailed images:

Like the Thar, the XUV700 is offered in two broad trims: MX and AX (AdrenoX). The former is essentially the lower-spec trim while the latter, available in three variants (AX3, AX5, and AX7), is the posher trim with all the niceties including driver assistance technology. This makes the XUV700 the most affordable SUV in India to feature this tech.

Now to the exterior design. At the front, the main thing that catches your eye is Mahindra’s new ‘Twin Peaks’ logo that debuts in the XUV700. The slatted grille is now angular and sleeker, flanked by LED headlamps with funky C-shaped DRLs featuring sequential turn indicators. Then there’s the simplistic bumper that houses the LED fog lamps.

A hint of Tesla can be seen in the flush-fitting door handles. You will also notice the typical kink (similar to the XUV500) above the rear wheel arches. Design highlights like the five dual-spoke alloy wheels, the subtle body cladding and roof rails accentuate the SUV look.

The XUV700’s rear-end is more angular in contrast to the XUV500. Design highlights include arrow-styled split-LED tail lamps and a minimalistic bumper with silver cladding. Clearly, Mahindra has taken a simpler approach to its design in comparison to the “cheetah-inspired” styling of the XUV500.

Inside, the Mercedes-Benz-like dual 10.25-inch screens comprising the digital driver’s display and infotainment system lend a premium feel to the cabin. It runs on Mahindra’s new AdrenoX UI and gets a host of premium features. The SUV can be had either as a 5-seater or a 7-seater with bench seats for middle row occupants.

Bookings and deliveries of Mahindra’s latest SUV are set to begin in October. At this pricing, the XUV700 not only rivals the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, and the Hyundai Alcazar, but it can be considered as an alternative against smaller 5-seater SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Skoda Kushaq.
